My Unexpected Forever by Heidi McLaughlin

Alright so I reviewed Forever My Girl a few posts ago and I told you all how I was desperately in love with it. I think I may have been wrong. I am desperately in love with My Unexpected Forever.

Man oh man.

I love Liam but I think my heart belongs to Harrison.

I fell crazy hard for him in Forever My Girl and he was only in it for a little while. So of course when I found out the second book was about him I was freaking stoked!

I also really loved Katelyn in the first book so I was really eager to see if her and Harrison could work things out.

If you've read the first book - which you better have if you're reading this review. If not then SHOO! - you know that Katelyn loses her husband Mason which leads to Liam coming back to town which leads to A LOT. At the end of the first book we meet Harrison and his son Quinn who have recently moved to Beaumont so Harrison can continue to make music with Liam.

It was implied that Harrison had googly eyes for Katelyn and home girl can't lie, she totally dug him too.
In this book we get to see their relationship bloom and it was amazing.
I LOVED every scene when they were like a little family. Harrisons son Quinn is the absolute best kid ever. I also really loved getting to know the twins better.
One of the best things about these books is that you get a crazy amount of feelings. I cried in this book just like I did Forever My Girl.
Another plus was the - ahem - steamier scenes. So. Freaking. Hot.
With all the goodness said I must be honest and say that Katelyn got on my nerves a couple of times. I know she lost her husband and she felt like she was betraying him but she kept going back and forth and that was exhausting. She also kept doubting Harrison - again understandable with her position - but it got aggravating.
If you enjoyed the first book then you must continue with the series.
It's beyond good.

Oh shoot I almost forgot! If you were curious about what happens to Liam and Josie don't worry you're pretty little head! You get plenty of them in My Unexpected Forever!

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

I'm kicking myself.
Why?
Because I JUST read this book.
I heard about Slammed awhile ago and just now decided to get off my ass and read it.
I'm so mad that I want to go back in time and kick my former self's butt for not reading this when I first freaking heard about it!
I really enjoyed this book guys. Like, really enjoyed it.
I have never read a book about slam poetry before...wait actually to be honest...I'd never even heard of slam poetry before this book.
Colleen Hoover you may have just become one of my favorite authors! Before I tell you guys the gist of the book I just want to say that the writing was spectacular. I've read a lot of books thus far in my life and I'm going to be honest and say that I haven't gotten attached to a lot of the characters. I dislike when I read a book and I'm just eh..okay..with the characters. When I read a book I want to feel like
A) One of the characters is just like me
B) I want to marry one of the characters and have adorable little babies with them
C) I want them to be my best friends
I got so attached to the characters in this book it was ridiculous! Lake was one of the coolest chicks I've ever read and Will...Oh Will. :)
In the beginning of the book we meet Lake who I instantly loved. She's recently lost her father and now her mother is moving herself, Lake and Lake's little brother to Michigan.
While moving into their new home Lake meets Will who happens to be there next door neighbor...and also happens to be totally crush-worthy.
Lake and Will are one of my favorite couples ever. I absolutely love them. So much happens in this book and I don't really want to spoil it for you guys.
The point is you need to read this. Now! I have the links to where you can buy Slammed at the bottom of the page. See I've helped you out. You. Are. Welcome.

Heidi McLaughlin Interview

Hello everyone!
I have another interview for you today and i'm super pumped about it.
I read Forever My Girl this month and I LOVED it. No seriously I LOVED it.
I did a review on Tuesday so if you'd like to check that out click
here.
I want to thank Heidi McLaughlin SO much for taking the time to talk with me and answer my questions.
Enjoy!

1. Have you always known that you wanted to be an author?

No, at one point in my life I wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, princess, vet, astronaut - you know all the cool jobs.

2. How old were you when you wrote your first book?

Define book? What really constitutes a book anyway? I wrote a lot when I was younger, I needed an outlet and for someone to listen to me. It just so happened that the listening piece was an inanimate object that didn't talk back or roll its eyes at me.

3. What tips do you have for aspiring authors?

Find a mentor, someone who is willing to show you the ropes and guide you. It's a tough process and having someone who is willing to help does make it easier.

4. Which authors do you admire most?

The ones who get it done, whether it's a stay at home mom, a full-time working mom, someone who takes a risk and leaves the security of a full-time job or a high school student who sits down night after night and pours their heart out to a computer screen - I admire them. It's not easy, but when you reach a goal it sure is rewarding.

5. I had so many different feelings when I read Forever My Girl. Some parts made me cry, some made me laugh, and some made my heart want to explode. Which scene was your favorite to write?

Oh boy what a tough question. As much as it kills me to read it over and over again, chapter one when Liam is reading the paper is my favorite because it really sets the feel and tone for the book. You can feel his struggle and know it's going to be epic.

6. Out of all the characters you've written so far, who is your favorite and why?

It's funny I get this question all the time and the answer is always - I can't choose because they're like my children, but I told my bestie and beta Yvie, the answer is always whoever I'm writing at the time so right now it would be Liam.

7. I love when authors do companion novels because it gives you a chance to know the other characters better, however I am a HUGE Liam fan. Do we get to see more of him in the future?

You do. This spring I'll release his prequel.

8. Liam is a talented musician with many female fans, which singer do you crush on?

Adam Levine.

9. If you could have any singer/band write a song for Forever My Girl who would you choose?

Oh I think Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons or Daughtry.

10. If Forever My Girl had a theme song what would it be?

Definitely Liam's song, Painkillers - it sums up everything he's gone through.

Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin

I'm going to be totally honest with you guys when I say that i've had a sample of this book on my Kindle for months.

I was searching for a book one day on the Kindle Store and this book was recommended. I downloaded a sample and figured i'd get to it eventually.

If I could go back to my few-months-ago-self and slap her I would.

This. Book. Is. Amazing.

I am so happy that I finally got my head outta my rear and read this book!

The stories main characters are Liam and Josie who were high school sweethearts. The two were desperately in love until the day Liam left to pursue a music career in L.A.
After the tragic death of a mutual friend Liam returns to his hometown where Sophie still resides.
I'm not even going to lie to you...I totally cried because of the death of their friend. You don't get to see too much of him but enough to make you miss him.
When Liam returns he plans on making it a quick trip. Stay for the funeral and then get the hell out of dodge.
That however is not what happens.
Secrets come out and true love conquers.

This book made me cry, laugh and grin so freaking much.
Not only did I adore Liam and Josie but I also loved the secondary characters. I can't wait to pick up the second book so I can find out more about the other characters.

If you believe true love exists then read this book.
It's beautiful.

The Temptation of Lila & Ethan by Jessica Sorensen

I almost didn't want to write this review because I don't know if I can explain to you guys how amazing this book is.

I know that it's only February and the year has only just begun, but I can safely say that this is one of my favorite books of the year.

I have read about 5 of Jessica Sorensen's books and I think she's amazing. Her books aren't predictable contemporary romances. They have grit and they are truly works of art.

This is a companion to The Secret of Ella and Micha, which I did read. The Secret of Ella and Micha was actually the first Jessica Sorensen novel that I ever read and I have to admit it wasn't my favorite. I enjoyed it a lot, but I wasn't as in love with that as I am The Temptation of Lila and Ethan.

If you've read Ella & Micha then you know that Lila is the best friend of Ella and Ethan is the best friend of Micha. When Ella returns home she brings her friend Lila and that's how Lila and Ethan meet.
Lila and Ethan are living in Vegas and have become really close friends. However while they are friends they also have some serious sexual tension going on.

Throughout the book the two get closer and realize that their feelings go deeper than just friendship.
Lila has some serious issues to overcome and Ethan is there every step of the way.

I adore this couple.

Lila is a kick ass chick who has had to deal with a lot in her life. Ethan is literally one of the greatest male characters I've ever read about. I am so in love with this book and I am begging you to pick it up! There's also a novella called Lila & Ethan: Forever and Always which is also amazing!

January 2014 Wrap Up

Hello, hello!
One of my goals this year was to do a monthly wrap up so here I am completing the first month of my goal.
Go me!
I read 14 books this month so i'm pretty darn happy with myself.
I won't be giving much of a synopsis of the books only because it will take forever and this post will be ridiculously long. I will leave the links to where you can buy the books though so if you're interested all you gotta do is click the link!
Enjoy!

#1 The Arrangement 2 by H.M. Ward
My oh my was this book good. The plus to the Arrangement books is that they are delicious and they are short. However the fact that they are short also sucks. I believe that there are about 12 or 13 of them now but there could be more. I don't want to spend $2.99 on each ebook when there are SO many of them. Of course I probably will since they are so good.

#2 The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst
I loved this book so so much! I even did a review on it which you can check out here: Review
I also was fortunate enough to interview the author of this yummy book Jennifer Probst. You can check out the interview here: Interview

#3 Finding It by Cora Carmack
I am a HUGE fan of Cora Carmack so I was stoked to read this book. I will say that it wasn't my favorite so far in the companion novel series but I did enjoy it. I didn't think I'd like Kelsey's story very much but she grew on me. I also was a big fan of Hunt.

#4 Rome by Jay Crownover
I really don't think I need to tell you guys how much I loved this book. I've only said in about every freaking tag I've done that this is the book I was most excited about for 2014. Simply amazing. Jay Crownover is my hero.

#5 Dare You To by Katie McGarry
I read Pushing The Limits in January of 2013 and I really didn't love it as much as everyone else so I was hesitant to pick this book up. It wasn't the best book I read all month but I did really enjoy it. I'll also say it made me want to read Crash Into You REAL bad :P

Amazon

#6 Nellcott Is My Darling by Golda Fried
I did a review of this book also which you can read here: Review
I also did an interview with Golda Fried so if you'd like to check that out click here: Interview

#7 The Temptation of Lila & Ethan by Jessica Sorensen
Holy crap did I love this book! If you've read The Secret of Ella and Micha then you already know Lila and Ethan. Let me just tell you that whether or not you liked Ella and Micha I can almost promise you that you will love this book. One of my favorite books of the month. Quite possibly one of my favorite books of the year. (I know I know it's only January, it was just that good!)

#8 Lila & Ethan: Forever & Always by Jessica Sorensen
After finishing The Temptation of Lila and Ethan I HAD to read the novella that went with it. So good. So so good.

#9 Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles
This is the second book in the Perfect Chemistry series and I will say I enjoyed it more than Perfect Chemistry. I was nervous because so many people have said that Perfect Chemistry was the best and I didn't really enjoy that. Just goes to show that people are different because I enjoyed this so much more.

#10 The Destiny of Violet & Luke by Jessica Sorensen
As you can tell I was on a bit of a Jessica Sorensen kick this month. I didn't like this as much as Lila & Ethan but I did really enjoy it. Major freaking plot twist in the end that made me crazy. I can't wait until the next book!

#11 A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers
I participated in a twitter chat with Jay Crownover and Lisa Desrochers which is how I found out about this book. Jay Crownover kept saying that this is one of her favorites and kept talking about how much she loves Lisa soooo I had to pick up this book asap. I'm really glad I did because I thought it was a really good new adult book.

#12 A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers
As soon as I finished A Little Too Far I had to pick up this book because I needed to know what happened to a character we meet in the first book. I liked the first one but I loved this one!

#13 Slammed by Colleen Hoover
Holy book goodness! I have been wanting to read this book but I've never been able to find it in stores. I broke down and bought it on my kindle and am SO happy that I did. I loved it!

#14 Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
I loved Slammed so I decided I needed more Colleen Hoover in my life. I've heard amazing things about Hopeless and I can now say that everything was true. It was different from any book that I've ever read and I would DEFINATLY recommend you check it out.
