Kiro's Emily by Abbi Glines

I don't think I knew how wonderful life could be until I picked up the Rosemary Beach series.
Ah.
If you've been following my blog for a while then you know just how much I love Abbi Glines and her books--especially her Rosemary Beach series. It's simply fantastic.
I hope that you too love these books and have already read the others. If not...get on that...quick.
Kiro's Emily is a free novella that Abbi released a couple weeks back as the best Christmas present to her fans.
Did you read that part where I said it's free? What did we do to deserve such a wonderful gift?
Kiro and Emily are the parents of one of my favorite characters Harlow. We get to see a bit of Kiro in her books and in some of the others which is great because he's awesome. In Harlows book we also hear a lot about her mother and then get a brief glimpse of her mother now.
This book takes us back to when Kiro and Emily first met and shows us how they started their relationship.
I absolutely loved this novella. It made me love and respect Kiro even more and I finally feel like I know Emily. There relationship is tragic and heartbreaking but also beautiful and heartwarming.
Abbi Glines can do no wrong.

1. Do you have a favorite Winter read?
I really enjoy reading Twilight in the winter. I don't think I've ever read it at any other time of year.

2. Find a book with blue on the cover!
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Boom. Blue.

3. Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree?

4. Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a Winter vacation!

5. Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your Winter vacation!
Augustus Waters. Or Edward Cullen because he wouldn't complain about being cold.

6. Name one book on your Wishlist this year!
Beautiful Redemption by Jamie McGuire. I. Need. It.

7. Favorite Holiday drink, treat, & movie?
I'm going to go with hot cocoa or pumpkin spice cappuccino as my favorite holiday drink. As for treat I'm going to go with something my mom makes. Every year on Christmas Eve she makes a TON of yummy goodies but my favorite is these little peanut butter rice crispy balls dipped in chocolate. Ah so good. And my favorite holiday movie is Christmas Every Day or The Year Without a Santa Claus.

Let It Snow Tag

1. What book gets you in the holiday spirit?
I don't think that I've ever read a Christmas book so I really can't answer this. HOWEVER I've always wanted to read Let It Snow and I do believe that would put me in the holiday spirit.

2. It's a blizzard outside and you're snowed in, which character would you want to be stuck inside with?
Hmm...Patrick from Perks of Being a Wallflower. I bet we'd have a lot of fun hanging out all day.

3. You're having a snow fight, which cold hearted character would you aim for first?
Nan from the Rosemary Beach series. Oh man would I love to pelt her with a snow ball.

4. Which family would you like to spend the holidays with?

5. Who would you want to kiss under the mistletoe?
Augustus Waters.

6. Which character was on the Naughty list, but made his/her way on to the nice list?
Rosalie from Twilight. She started off pretty freaking bitchy but got a lot better.

Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. Stickin' with the Twilight family :)

8. The Hallmark channel is having a holiday movie marathon, what book has the cheeiest cover?
I think the Vampire Academy books have somewhat cheesy covers. I also am not a huge fan of some of the covers for my beloved Abbi Glines.

Classic Christmas Cinema Book Tag

1. Elf- choose a book that puts you in the Christmas mood
I haven't read a Christmas book but I think Let It Snow or My True Love Gave To Me would put me in a wonderful Christmas mood.

2. It's a Wonderful Life- choose a book with a character who goes through some serious character development
Woods from the Rosemary Beach series is who pops in my head. He started off kinda cocky...okay he's still pretty cocky BUT he falls head over heals for Della and really becomes a strong man.

3. Christmas Carol- choose a book/series with a character you didn't like at first, but grew to love
I wasn't instantly sold on Christian from Vampire Academy but he grew to be one of my favorite characters.

4. Home Alone- choose a book where the parents aren't present and if they are, they aren't such a good influence
There's a Sarah Dessen book where the girl goes to live with her...sister I think? So yeah if you know what I'm talking about I pick that one.

5. Frosty the Snowman- Find a book with a snowy cover
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares.

6. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer- Choose a protagonist you couldn't help but root for
Hazel Grace Lancaster.

7. Polar Express- Find a book where characters travel somewhere cold
The Marked Men series takes place in Colorado and that's cold. I mean they live there, they don't travel there but I think that counts.

8. How the Grinch Stole Christmas- Choose a villain you couldn't help but love
Aro from Twilight.

9. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation- Choose a character with a goofy sense of humor
I'm sorry...I didn't want to answer two separate questions with TFIOS but...Augustus Waters.

10. Lifetime/Hallmark movie- Choose a book with the cheesiest romance
The couple in For Now by Chelsea M. Cameron was kind of cheesy. I wasn't a huge fan of that book.

Trip Down Memory Lane Tag

1. The first novel you remember reading?

I'm going to go with...Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants.

6. A book you will always remember reading for the first time?
Turns out that the name of this tag is the Twilight tag not Trip Down Memory Lane tag. Just kidding. Seriously though I have to say Twilight again.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Christmas Cracker Book Tag

That's right, I'm starting the Christmas tags already. What can I say? I love Christmas!! Enjoy!!

1. Pick a book with a wintery cover.
Let It Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle and Maureen Johnson. I'm thinking about the one with the snowflakes on the cover btw.

2. Pick a book you're likely to buy as a present.
I don't really have a lot of friends who read so I don't usually buy books as gifts. However I was talking books with a friend the other day and I told her I was going to let her borrow Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I think that is the perfect gift for people who dig contemporary/new adult. I'd totally give that book as a gift.

3. Pick a festive themed book.
My  True Love Gave To Me by Stephanie Perkins and a million other authors :)

4. Pick a book you can curl up with by the fireplace.
Twilight.
Leave me alone.

5. Pick a book you you want to read over the festive period.
Let It Snow!! I've never had a chance to read it but I've always wanted to.

6. Pick a book that's so good it gives you the chills.
The Fault in Our Stars. You thought we were finally going to get through one book tag without me mentioning that book, didn't you?

7. Pick a book going on your Christmas wishlist.Just one? You want me to pick. Just. One. ???? Urm probably Nev Shulmans book...I forget the title. He released it MONTHS ago and I never got my hands on it.

You Were Mine by Abbi Glines

I'm not sure Abbi Glines is human. I mean I don't know any other human who consistently writes epically incredible books.
Whether she is in fact human life form or not she's amazing.
It's no surprise that I'm
A) A HUGE Abbi Glines fan
and
B) A HUGE fan of the Rosemary Beach series
I'm not going to lie I was pretty pissed at Bethy after one of the books in this series. I have since seen the light and I no longer harbor any hard feelings.
We meet Tripp in Twisted Perfection (Woods and Della's story in the series) If it weren't for this beautiful man Della and Woods would've never started dating and that would've been a damn shame.
Bethy and Tripp fell in love when they were 16 and 18 years old. Tripp was the older rich boy who fell in love with the poor young innocent girl.
Of course it's not all peaches and sunshine because Tripp leaves and breaks Bethy's heart. We aren't mad at him for leaving though because he didn't want to. He left to get away from his shitty parents with the intention of coming back for Bethy once she was 18.
Years go by though and Bethy begins dating Jace (Tripps cousin) which you know if you've read the rest of the series.
Things happen--which I won't tell you in case you're just plain silly and haven't read the rest of the books yet--and Bethy and Jace are no longer together.
You know what? It's really hard to explain things when I can't tell you what happened.
Since I don't want to be a spoiler I'll just say that this book is about Tripp and Bethy finding their way back to each other.
It's beautiful and heartbreaking as are most of Abbi Glines books are. I was highly impressed with this book and I DEFINTELY recommend it.
P.S. Tripp is my new favorite out of the Rosemary Beach boys.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

For Now by Chelsea M. Cameron

So before we get into the "actual review" I wanted to give some background. A year or so ago I read My Favorite Mistake by Chelsea M. Cameron and fell head over heels crazy for it. It. Was. Great. The characters were funny and incredibly loveable, the romance was there but not to in your face. It was almost perfect in my opinion. So when I was sent For Now to review I was stoked. Another Chelsea M. Cameron book? Yes please! Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of this book. The first 20% that I read made me want to put it down actually. I felt like the romance was kind of weird and I wasn't sold on the characters. HOWEVER I decided to push through it and ended up enjoying it.
First of all this is the second book in a series which I wasn't aware of when going into it. I don't think it's necessary to read the first book though because I kept up pretty well. The only thing is there was a couple of times that they referenced the first book so that was confusing a little.
Anyway the book primarily follows Javi and Hazel who are the best friends of the main characters in the first book. The two are the kinds of friends that pick on each other and secretly have it bad for one another but are to stubborn to admit it.
After their best friends start spending all of their time together Javi and Hazel begin spending more time together. It's pretty clear early on that Javi has the hots for Hazel but nothing happens for a hot minute. Eventually though the two realize that they have it bad so they hook up. The rest of the book you find out more about Javi and his past and you get to watch their relationship blossom.
My pros for this book are Javi ended up being pretty loveable and I also liked Jett.
The con is that I felt rushed throughout the entire book. I'm normally all for relationships to blossom fast because I hate--and I mean HATE--when the characters don't get together until the end. However this one happened so fast. It was like Hazel was all "It's not happening" and then the next chapter it was in fact happening. I also felt kind of awkward when reading the sex scenes. I've read 50 Shades of Grey and many new adult books so I'm used to books with sex. This however was just uncomfortable and I felt weird.
I also didn't think that the writing was as good as it was in My Favorite Mistake.
HOWEVER it was a pretty quick read and the second half was a lot better than the first. The characters did end up fun to read and I did find myself smiling every now and then.
If you like New Adult Contemporary then here's another book to add to your TBR.

The Characters Book Tag

1. Who is the best kick-ass character?
I think I'll go with Four from Divergent--yes part of the reason I chose him is because Theo James is smokin' hot.

2. Which character do you most dislike?
Nan from The Rosemary Beach series by Abbi Glines. Words can not express how much I dislike this character. #NanHater

3. If you could date any fictional character who would it be and why?
Why is it that after all these years the answer that pops into my head first is Edward Cullen? I also think if Etienne St. Clair was real we would totally date.

4. If you could change a character in any way what would it be?
I would change Clary from the Mortal Instruments. In the first couple of books (especially) she drove me nuts.

5. What character to you made all the wrong choices that didn't add anything to the book?
I don't think I can answer this question. Even though I don't agree with all of the decisions characters make in books they make them for a reason. I honestly can't think of a book that would still be good without the choices that were made. Sorry.

6. Out of the five books you have chosen which character was the best villain whom you love to hate?
Sebastian from Mortal Instruments was a pretty bad ass villain but I also love to hate Aro from Twilight.

7. Favorite side-kick character with the most heart?
My mind instantly goes to Alice Cullen because she was somewhat of a side-kick and she had a helluva lot of heart.

8. What is your favorite fictional romantic relationship?
Augustus Waters & Hazel Grace Lancaster...shock.

9. What character did you think was the strongest?
I think that Hazel from TFIOS is exceptionally strong. Not only does she deal with everything she's going through with her body but then she also has to deal with everything that happens with Gus. To be able to go through everything she does and still come out okay is truly inspiring.

10. Best protagonist?
I'm very sorry for all of the Twilight answers--I must be in the mood for a re-read--but I'm going to say Bella Swan. I really enjoyed Bella's views on things and getting to feel what she felt. Those books were so great.

Reading Problems Tag

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
It depends on my mood silly. :)

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
When I was a lot younger I'd put the book down and then from like 15-23 I would finish it whether I liked it or not. Now it depends. If it's somewhat interesting I'll keep on truckin' but if it royally sucks I'll put it down.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?
I'm actually 2 or 3 books behind on my Goodreads challenge which to be honest is really pissing me off. This has not been a good reading year for me. Mostly everything I've read I've loved or really enjoyed, I just haven't been in the mood to read.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?
I don't.

5. Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
I don't really have any friends who like to read so unfortunately I have to piss and moan all by my lonesome.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
I either suck it up or stop reading until I'm alone. Unless of course I'm reading TFIOS, I'm pretty sure everyone would understand if they saw me crying while reading that.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?!?
I usually consider reading the first book again but normally I just read the sequel and hope for the best. Normally I'll start remembering things and if not then I'll Google it or watch review videos of the previous book.

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?
I either change the subject, tell them how they should buy their own copy because they'll love it that much OR I just say I don't like lending out books because in the past nobody has treated my books good enough.

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?
I pray that Abbi Glines I releasing a new book, read a contemporary or re-read one of my favorite books.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?
I haven't bought many physical books this year actually. I think I've bought about 5 physical books and maybe 15 kindle books...maybe more in the beginning of the year actually. I've been getting most of my books from the library.

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?
It depends on how much I want to read them and how often I hear about them on BookTube.

TV Boyfriend Tag

I did the Book Boyfriend Tag a while back and now (after watching Heather from Bookables do this) I decided to re-answer the questions only with my TV Boyfriends instead of Book Boyfriends. Yes I know this is a book blog but I like tv. Don't judge.

1. Most romantic boyfriend
I think Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd is very romantic. I absolutely love him because he's well...he's dreamy. ;)

2. Dark and moody bad boy with a good side
Dylan McKay from Beverly Hills, 90210. Oh boy did I have a crush on him.

3. Paranormal boyfriend
Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Yes I love Angel but Spike looks like Billy Idol. Do I need to explain my decision anymore? No I didn't think so.

4. Boyfriend you want to tame
Jess from Gilmore Girls for sure. I wouldn't want to tame him TOO much...just a little. I always had a crush on him but I couldn't trust him. How is our relationship going to work without trust? Hmm?

5. Boy you friend zoned
Schmidt from New Girl!! I have such a deep love in my heart for him but it's a strictly platonic type of love.

6. Your soul mate
Seth Cohen from the OC!! I've had a crush on him since I was 13. In case you don't know I'm 24 so I've had it bad for him for a LONG time. Seth's super funny and original and I love that about him. I think we'd be very happy together. ;)

7. Boyfriend you want to elope with
Nathan Scott from One Tree Hill. I've also had a crush on him forever! He's just so...ah...so wonderful. #23FoLife

8. Boyfriend you'd venture anywhere with
Eric from Boy Meets World would be an excellent travelling companion. He's HILARIOUS and I love to laugh so it'd be perfect.

9. Boyfriend you'd want to be stranded on a desert island with
Once Upon a Times very own HOOK!! He's a freaking pirate, he's hot, and he wears eyeliner. I'm sure he would try his best to keep us healthy, safe and fed. But even if he couldn't who needs food when you have eye candy like that ;)

10. Most badass boyfriend
Damon Salvatore hellur!

Creatures of The Night Tag

1. Vampire
I can't not say Twilight. It's my favorite and you're just going to have to accept that. Some of my favorite vampires of that beautiful series are Alice Cullen, Edward Cullen, Jasper Hale...actually you know what? The whole Cullen/Hale clan.

2. Werewolf
Tyler from Vampire Diaries. Wait is his name Tyler? It's been a while since I've watched that show.

3. Zombie
R from Warm Bodies. I've only read like 2 zombie books and I hated one and loved the other. Warm Bodies being the one I loved. R is one of the coolest characters ever.

4. Ghost
Anna from Anna Dressed in Blood. She's so freaking cool.

5. Witch/Warlock/Spellcaster
Magnus Bane from City of Bones!! Ahhh I love him.

6. Fairy/Fae
Can I use someone from a television show? I really want to say the Blue Fairy or Tinkerbell from Once Upon a Time. You know technically there's a book in the show so you know what I think it counts.

7. Demon
Well Dank from Existence by Abbi Glines is Death...He's not really a demon but still...does he count?

8. Angel
Patch from Hush Hush is a pretty cool angel...well he's a fallen angel...

9. Alien
Daemon from The Lux series. I know...how predictable. He's sexy.

10. Superpowered humanThere are a whole bunch of super powered humans in The Darkest Mind by Alexandra Bracken so I'm going to go with that.

All Broke Down by Cora Carmack

About ALL BROKE DOWN:

In this second book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack’s New Adult, Texas-set Rusk University series, which began with ALL LINED UP, a young woman discovers that you can’t only fight for what you believe in . . . sometimes you have to fight for what you love

Dylan fights for lost causes. Probably because she used to be one.

Environmental issues, civil rights, corrupt corporations, and politicians—you name it, she’s probably been involved in a protest. When her latest cause lands her in jail overnight, she meets Silas Moore. He’s in for a different kind of fighting. And though he’s arrogant and infuriating, she can’t help being fascinated with him. Yet another lost cause.

Football and trouble are the only things that have ever come naturally to Silas. And it’s trouble that lands him in a cell next to do-gooder Dylan. He’s met girls like her before—fixers, he calls them, desperate to heal the damage and make him into their ideal boyfriend. But he doesn’t think he’s broken, and he definitely doesn’t need a girlfriend trying to change him. Until, that is, his anger issues and rash decisions threaten the only thing he really cares about, his spot on the Rusk University football team. Dylan might just be the perfect girl to help.

Because Silas Moore needs some fixing after all.

AND because you all are the luckiest readers in the world, here is an excerpt for your viewing pleasure ;)
Excerpt:
I think I get it then. That decision I saw in her eyes back in the kitchen. That’s what this, what I’m about for her, too. I’m just another part of whatever rebellion she started earlier today. About doing what she wants, not what’s expected of her.
“We’re not talking about me, though,” she says. “So you went to meet your friend, and then what happened?”
She keeps her eyes down as she picks up the gauze and begins winding it snugly around the knuckles of one hand, and then the other.
“He said the wrong thing.”
“Which was?”
“Dylan.” Now it’s her that’s pushing too hard. I didn’t want to talk about things with my friends, and I won’t talk about them with her, either, no matter how gorgeous she is.
“I’ll guess. You were mad about what he did, and he wasn’t sorry.”
“This isn’t middle school, Pickle. He didn’t hurt my feelings. He said some shit he had no business saying, and it pissed me off. The end.”
“But you don’t think some of that anger stems from what you feel is a betrayal of your friendship?”
She finishes taping down the last of the gauze, but doesn’t let go of my hand.
“I think you’re analyzing me again. Making things more complicated than they are.”
“And I think you’re just a guy who doesn’t like to admit he has feelings.” She drags out the word, teasing me with some goofy smile on her face. I turn my hand over so I can clutch her wrist. I curlmy other bandaged hand around her waist and pull her closer.
“I feel plenty of things.”
The teasing stops. She swallows.
“I wasn’t talking about that kind of feeling.”
With her standing and me sitting, I’m eye level with her chest. I see the sharp rise and fall as she sucks in a breath. I want her in my lap again, straddling me this time.
“Doesn’t mean we can’t talk about that kind of feeling. Or experiment with it.”
“Is that Stella girl an ex?”
I cough, surprised. My throat twists uncomfortably, and it takes me a couple of solid breaths to get a hold on myself.
“Ah, no. Stella and I have never dated.”
“Have you—”
“Do you ever run out of questions?”
“Not ever.” She turns playful again, and I’m done doing this the careful way. If she wants a rebellion, I’ll be the one to give it to her. I want her against me, and I’m tired of waiting.
I pull her forward, insinuating my knees between hers, and her body naturally follows, settling across my thighs. Her lips part, but she catches herself before she gasps this time. I keep her steady with my hands at her waist and say, “I’ll make you a deal. A question for a kiss.”
Tentatively, she lays her palms against my shoulders. They rest there, her grip light and casual. She ponders my offer for a moment, and it drives me mad that she can do that while our hips are inches away from alignment.
“Okay then. Are you—”
I cut her off. “Not so fast, Dylan Brenner. I’ve already answered one question. We’ve got to settle up first.”
I wrap her braid around my hand like I’ve been waiting to do all night, and I use it to pull her head back just enough that I can crush my mouth against hers.

Fall Time Cozy Time Tag

1. Crunching Leaves: Choose a book that has red, orange and yellow on it
The worst book ever AKA Allegiant by Veronica Roth

2. Cozy Sweater: What book gives you the warm fuzzies
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green...I'm sure you're not sick of that answer yet.

3. Fall Storm: Choose your favorite book/genre to read on a stormy day
For some reason I really enjoy reading Twilight when fall hits and the weather gets cold.

4. Cool Crisp Air: What cool character would you want to trade places with
This is actually a harder question that I first realized...I mean there are a lot of cool characters but I don't know if I'd really want to be them. Hmm...

5. Hot Apple Cider: What is an under hyped book that you want to see be the next hottest book
I don't really know if it's under-hyped but I just read Shame by Rachel Van Dyken and it was INCREDIBLE!!

6. Coats, Scarves, Mittens: What's the most embarrassing book cover you own and want to keep hidden from the public
I own The Douche Journals by Schmidt and while the cover isn't bad the name isn't the most appropriate. I mean I'd be a little uncomfortable reading a book called "The Douche Journals" in public.

7. Pumpkin Spice: What is your favorite comfort food in the fall time
Well it's not really food but I'm pretty much obsessed with Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino in the fall. Yummmmm.

Bookish Scenarios Tag

1. You have to get rid of all your books and you can only keep one from each of these genres - contemporary, fantasy, non-fiction and one other genre of your choosing. What books do you keep?
Why are you making me get rid of all my books? That's just mean! What did I do to you?
Ugh.
Contemporary: The Fault in Our Stars!!
Fantasy: Can I consider Twilight Fantasy?
Non-Fiction: I don't really read non-fiction so I can I keep another book?

2. You're at the bookstore and you hear a teenager telling their mom they don't like to read, but their mom insists they pick something. You walk over and recommend a book you think is great for people who aren't big on reading - what book is it?
Instantly I think TFIOS because it's pure genius, but then after thinking about it that might be a bad choice. That book rips out your heart for a minute there and that could really make the kid hate books. These questions are hard too because it really depends on the person. Oh hell, who cares, I'm choosing TFIOS.

3. You're not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which book do you read to put yourself in a great mood?
The first half of TFIOS puts me in a great mood. I got bored a couple months back and just wanted to read something that would make me smile. I was scanning through my kindle and saw The Fault in Our Stars and was like heck yes I'll read that again. Turned out to be an excellent decision.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years. What book would you most likely have caught yourself reading?
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Shocker.

5. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day trip and you have 1 hour to pack. Which book do you bring to read on the way?
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour because hello it's about a road trip. How fitting is that?

6. Your house has been robbed! Don't worry - everyone is safe, but your bookshelf has been raided. What's the book you really hope is safe?
Why would someone steal my books? Does no one have morals anymore?! I would hope my signed books are safe. Yes I know that's more than one but that's my answer.

7. Your friend borrows a book and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven't noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs
I'm not outspoken enough to come right out and ask them to repurchase it but I would guilt them until they offered to buy me a new copy.

Shame by Rachel Van Dyken

I have been an exceptionally lucky book blogger lately. Why you ask? Well because I've been given the BEST books to review and Shame is no exception. I'm in love.
I read my first Rachel Van Dyken book earlier this year and simply adored it. I was also lucky enough to interview her and I can tell you that she's not just an incredible author but she's also a wonderful person.
Anyway we're here to talk about Shame not about all the great books I've been reading or my love for the great Rachel Van Dyken.
Shame follows Lisa who is a character we're first introduced to in Ruin. Before we meet Lisa she was in a highly abusive relationship with a boy named Taylor. Not only was he verbally abusive-we're talking like serious brainwashing abuse-he was also physically abusive. While together Taylor would have Lisa do horrible things to people to embarrass them while he taped everything., then he would put the videos on a website called Shame.
Taylor ends up truly trying to ruin Lisa by committing suicide in front of her.
Now it's years later and Lisa is trying to live a normal life while attending college in Seattle. Normal isn't an easy achievement however because Lisa is receiving threats in the mail.
Lisa goes to class one day and here we meet the oh so yummy Dr. Tristan Blake the hot new professor. When we first meet him he's a..well..he's a jackass. Turns out the new professor has a copy of Taylors twisted journal and is here seeking answers as to why Taylor killed himself.
One night Tristan attends a charity masquerade ball that Wes and Gabe are a part of and is instantly drawn to Lisa...funny thing is he doesn't know who she is because hello it's a masquerade ball so she's wearing a mask. The two dance and spend the evening together promising not to remove their masks until midnight. Well tick tock goes the clock, off go the masks and surprise!
Fortunately for us this isn't the last we see of the two together because after that night they can't stay away from each other.
The more the book goes on we get to watch them grow closer but there's also trouble ahead. Lisa isn't just receiving hate-mail now, someone is also breaking into her dorm room.
I can't really tell you much more because I don't want to be a ruiner but I can tell you-again-that I loved this book. I loved getting to see our favorite characters again and I loved meeting Tristan.
This book was not only romantic and sexy it was also funny at times and extremely suspenseful. I freaking loved it.
Normally this is where I'd say, "If you like suspense you'd like this book," or "If you like new adult you'll like this," but this time I'm saying, "If you like to read then pick this up! It won't disappoint."

T. Torrest Interview

I've been lucky enough the past couple weeks to talk with author T. Torrest and can I just say that I love her? She's not only a really great author but she's also a blast to talk to. I really appreciate her taking the time to do this interview with me so many many thanks go out to her.
I had a lot of fun doing this interview so I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did :)

1. Is writing something you've always loved doing?
Yes, but I never thought about making it a career. I wrote plays when I was younger, bad poetry as a teenager, and I kept a diary throughout most of my life. Nowadays, I find writing is something I HAVE to do. And I couldn't be happier about it.

2. Which 5 authors do you love so much that you automatically buy their books when they have a new release?
I wish I had a better answer here, but I hardly have time to read AT ALL these days! I'll drop everything for a new Stevie Kisner or LB Simmons, though, and I may or may not stalk Judith McNaught from time to time. Other than that, whenever I actually find the time to read, I'll simply grab whatever catches my eye at that moment.

3. How do you come up with names for the characters in your books?
Some are family members or friends; some are just offbeat names I like. I try to carefully balance the odd names with some everyday, ordinary ones, just like actual humans in real life.

4. I read that you ended Remember When without a cliffhanger so you don't have to read the rest of the books if you don't want to. Is this true and if so why did you choose to write them that way?
RW1 has a bittersweet ending, but you're right; I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger. In fact, I grappled with RW2's cliffy, because I wasn't looking to torture my readers. I worked on a few alternate scenarios, but there was really no other way for that book to end. I made sure to wrap up EVERY loose end in RW3 to make up for it, though.

5. What made you want to have Remember When take place in the 90s?
Well, considering Layla is telling us this story from her present, I needed a year to flash back to. I graduated in 1990, so it was easy to put myself back in that time and portray it accurately.

6. Trip is an incredibly talented actor and totally crush worthy, which actor do you swoon for?
Oooh. I swoon for quite a few, but Brad Pitt's always at the top of my list.

7. Trip just got the lead in a remake of your favorite movie! What movie will he appear in and who will he be playing?
Good question! It's too easy to say "Slap Shot" or "Sixteen Candles," so I'll go with Dirk Diggler in "Boogie Nights."

8. Woo hoo! Let's pretend Remember When is becoming a movie! Who is playing Layla and Trip on the big screen?
I get asked this a lot, and normally, I don't like to answer, only because I like to leave readers to their own imagination. That said, I'll give you a few names that others have brought up (and that I wouldn't be opposed to). LAYLA: Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly. TRIP: Matt Lanter, Alex Pettyfer, Taylor Kitsch, James Preston.

9. Layla and Trip are such a fun couple! I loved reading about them and watching their relationship blossom. Who is your favorite book couple?
Hmmm. Tough one. Rhett and Scarlett, maybe?

10. I thought Layla was a really cool female protagonist and I really liked getting to know her. What do you look for in female protagonists?
Someone I can relate to, someone who's not annoying or stupid or mean.

11. If Remember When had a theme song what would it be?
Easy one! "Paradise City" all the way, baby.

Remember When by T. Torrest

So here's the story...
The other day I was scrolling through the many books that Netgalley offers and ran across this gem. The cover looked pretty summery and light which was exactly what I was looking for.
Lately I've been reading some darker books so a light chick lit is exactly what the doctor ordered.
I'm so glad that I got approved for this book because I thought it was really fun.
Our female protagonist is named Layla and can I just say that I thought she was awesome? At first - I'm not going to lie - I wasn't digging her to much. She seemed a little shy and offish in the begining. Oh boy was I wrong. Layla is a really strong girl with a funny attitude and great personality.
Enter Trip our resident heart throb.
Trip is new to school but being new doesn't stop him from talking to Layla. As soon as the two first interact I was hooked. I knew I wanted them together and I knew I wanted their relationship to last.
The two start off as friends- even though they clearly have feelings for each other. Mixed signals happen...as usual. Urgh. The more the two spend time together though the more they realize they care for each other.
I hope i'm not giving you a spoiler here but eventually the two get together. I know what you're thinking, "I would hope they get together other wise that book sucks!" My sentiments exactly which is why I don't care if I spoiled you.
As I said Layla is a great character and I loved Trip. I loved getting to know them better and really enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
Remember When also takes place in the 1990's so duh of course I liked it. :)
If you're looking for a sweet chick lit book then I'd definitely recommend you pick this one up!

Remember When Playlist:
Crush by Jennifer Paige (I heard this song in my head the first time Trip and Layla meet :P )
You're A God by Vertical Horizon
Crazy For This Girl by Evan & Jaron
Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer
She's So High by Tal Bachman
Layla by Eric Clapton (It had to be done)
Paradise City by Guns N Roses (You'll know why I chose this once you read the book)
