Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith

I requested this book from Netgalley a month or so ago because I am a Jennifer E. Smith fan. I read and reviewed This Is What Happy Looks Like - which you can read by clicking HERE - and loved it. I also had a chance to interview Jennifer - which you can read by clicking HERE.
Because I was such a huge fan of TIWHLL I figured I'd be just as crazy about this book. However that wasn't the case for me. Don't get me wrong I liked it just fine but it didn't capture me the way the other book did.
Unfortunately I didn't bond with the characters in this book as much which made me sad because you want to relate and connect with characters.
This book follows Aiden and Claire who are about to head off to college. The two of them are pretty much high school sweethearts but are going to attend colleges on opposite sides of the country. Claire is a very realistic person so she decides that the two of them should break up before they leave for school. Aiden isn't thrilled about this idea and spends a lot of the book trying to convince Claire that they can make things work even if it will be hard.
Throughout the course of the book we follow the two of them for one night while they relive some of their best memories and visit places that they had some of their firsts together - such as first kiss, first time one of them said I love you, first time they..ahem.
The book itself was super easy to read and I found myself wanting to read it a lot. It made me sad a few times because I liked Claire and Aiden as a couple and wanted things to work out for them. Also as someone who is 25 I remember what it's like having to part ways with friends/significant others so you could move to the next chapter of your life and it's hard.
I feel like Jennifer E. Smith really captured what it's like to be in love but having to face reality.
Even though I wasn't 100% connected to the characters I am a big fan of them.
Whether or not you've read Jennifer E. Smith before I'd recommend this book - just be warned that it could pull at your feels.

  1. I would have been cheering for Aiden to succeed because, HELLO, hubby and I lived 2000 miles apart and we made it work. =P
