I have been extremely blessed by getting to interview some amazing authors and today is no exception.

I got to interview Colleen Hoover! I know I actually can't believe it either.

Colleen is the author of many amazing books such as Slammed and Hopeless.

I want to say HUGE thank yous to Colleen for taking time out of her incredibly busy schedule to answer my questions.
I know I say this all the time but it really does mean the world to me.

Enjoy!

1. What made you want to become a writer, and why write YA?
I've always enjoyed writing. I wrote my first story, Mystery Bob, when I was 5 years old. I just never thought it was possible to make a career out of it. I got married and had children at a young age, and I couldn't afford to take those kinds of chances, so I got a safe job so I could support my family. When I finally did write my first book, I had no idea it was YA. I wasn't trying to fit a particular genre, I was just writing what I wanted to write.

2. What drew me into Slammed was the Slam Poetry, I've never read a book like that before. How did you come up with the concept?
Well, I had seen a special on television about a slam poetry competition and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. After that, I loved looking up videos of slam poetry on YouTube. At one point, I thought it would be fun to read some kind of book about slam poetry. When I couldn't find one, I just decided to write one instead.

3. Some of the characters in Slammed had unique names how did you come up with them?
Layken is a name I've always loved and probably would have liked to use if I'd had any daughters. Kel is based off my son, Cale. And Caulder is just another name that I always thought was cool.

4. Slammed dealt with a lot of serious issues but the characters dealt with them using humor. Do you feel that laughter is the best medicine?
I definitely think people take certain things to seriously. You're allowed to be sad when bad things happen, but you also have to realize that there is nothing you can do about them. All you can do is make the best out of any situation and know that you're the only one in control of your happiness.

5. Lake was such an amazing character and so was Will, who was your favorite?
Haha, I can't choose between the two. That's like asking me to choose between my own children!

6. I have a massive book crush on Will, who's your book boyfriend?
I don't know that I really have a book boyfriend, but I absolutely adore Augustus Waters from The Fault in our Stars.

7. Music was such an important part of this book. If you had the opportunity to create your own music festival, which bands would you want to play?
The Avett Brothers, The Airborne Toxic Event, Matt Corby, and Griffin Peterson. That would be awesome. Someone should make that happen.

8. Out of all the books you've written, which one are you most proud of?
I'm proud of them all in such different ways. I'm proud of Slammed for being the first novel I ever finished; I'm proud of Hopeless for hitting #1 on the NYT Bestsellers list; I'm proud of Maybe Someday for being a unique take on combining fiction and music; and I'm proud of Ugly Love because I really think it might be my best yet. Ugly Love is the only book I've written so far that's actually made me cry.

9. If you could be best friends with any book character - from your books or from a book you didn't write - who would you choose?
That's a really tough one. I just read Archer's Voice and loved it. I'd love a chance to meet Archer in real life.

10. There are so many book to movie adaptations coming out this year, which one are you most excited to see? Which adaptation is your all-time favorite?

I'm not sure I have an all-time favorite, but I'm really excited to see The Fault in our Stars.

11. If Slammed had a theme song what would it be?
Pretty Girl from Michigan by The Avett Brothers

Follow Colleen Here:Website
Last year I read the Bluewater Billionaires series which was a four part series a group of authors wrote together, one of them being Kathryn Nolan. I hadn't read anything by her up until that point and the second I finished Wild Open Hearts I knew I had just met a new favorite author.

I downloaded Bohemian and finished it the next day. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it and that my friends is how you know you have been captivated by a book.

Calvin Ellis on the outside is put together, kind of quiet, and well, a little nerdy.

Lucia Bell on the outside is perfect. She's beautiful which is obvious by her profession of being a model. She's also funny and kindhearted.

The two of them don't make any sense, right? Wrong-o.

Calvin has just moved to Big Sur after inheriting his grandfathers book store, The Mad Ones. Once a wildly successful and popular bookstore, it's not what it once was. With the intention of selling the place, Calvin has no plans to stay. However, the idea of selling brings with it so many questions on the path of Calvin's life. Should he sell? Should he go back to his old boring life? Or should he stay and bring back the former glory of this magical store.

Enter Lucia.

A photoshoot is scheduled to take place at The Mad Ones and with that beautiful Lucia is now face to face with Calvin. Instantly taken by each other the two can't stop sneaking glances at one another.

I'm going to share a snippet from Goodreads:

"One night they share a passionate and frenzied kiss against a bookshelf. Outside the store, lightning strikes. Trees topple. And the world shakes beneath their feet.

As the storm tears its way through Big Sur, Calvin and Lucia share and explore their most secret desires. Hopes and dreams they once thought lost are recaptured. But inevitably, as reality roars back, they find themselves stuck at a crossroads."

You guys. Come on. Doesn't that sound phenomenal? I'm here to tell you IT IS. The chemistry between Lucia and Calvin is off the freaking charts. Nerdy little Calvin is hot. He's dominating and protective and kind and deeeeefinitely book bf material. Lucia is so funny and it's impossible not to adore her. They are one of those couples that you never want to forget. They leave you wanting to know what the rest of their lives will be. You want to see it all.

Kathryn Nolan is an effing genius.

I without a doubt in my big old head think you will love this as much as me. I definitely recommend.

Buy Bohemian Here:
Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Books A Million

Listen to my playlist for Bohemian on Spotify by clicking HEREKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-85933248450806460952020-05-14T09:00:00.000-07:002020-05-14T09:00:07.361-07:00I'm a DUFF: Kathryn Nolan

You. Guys. I am so happy today that I have another Duff story for you. Not only that but it's by Kathryn Nolan! If you haven't heard me gush about her let me go all proud mama for one minute.

Kathryn is literally one of the SWEETEST people I've ever had the blessing to talk to. Her writing is absolutely breathtaking and just in talking to her and reading her works you feel content and happy. If you haven't checked out anything she's written please take my advice and go get all of her books. Well, read this first please. ;) Major thank you's to you Kathryn for taking the time to write this for me as well as for my friends. <3

____

The DUFF moment I want to share is about an extremely challenging hike I was on with my husband in the summer of 2017. We were camping at Lake Louise in Canada (one of the prettiest places in the whole world) and had just hiked about four miles (all uphill) and I was definitely having an “off” day. It didn’t help that Rob (my husband) didn’t seem that tired or overly exerted from our hike – and when we reached the trailhead for a second hike, he really wanted to do it. It was only a mile or so up, and the view was supposed to be fantastic. The hike was to the summit of Fairview Mountain (if you’re ever at Lake Louise definitely do this hike – its worth it) but I was hot, tired, hungry and my legs already felt like lead from the four miles we’d just done (and still had to do to get back down to our campsite).
Rob took off and I told him to go ahead of me – something we rarely ever do when hiking. But I was exhausted, and not feeling it, and wanted to be on my own to suffer. The one-mile hike to the summit ended up being grueling switch-backs so steep that half the hike you have to pull yourself up the rocks on your hands and knees. Every hiker I passed coming down was cheerful and enthusiastic and encouraging. I was actually in tears – it just felt insurmountable to me.
But I kept climbing – suuuuuper sloowwwly – and even though it was slow, it was steady. Every time I turned around, I was gaining altitude, getting higher, and all around me I could see the mountains, the forests, the crystal-blue-green glacial lakes. The hikers I passed told me, every time, that I was absolutely almost at the top, until – after about an hour – I was.
I was crying pretty hard at this point – I’d crossed over from exhaustion and pain into feeling like a bad-ass that I had done it. On my own, with no help. The last hundred yards I could look up – see Rob waving down at me from the top. He raced back down, and then we reached the summit together. I cried (again) and then realized that we were standing on top of the world. I could see all of Lake Louise as well as other, smaller lakes in the distance I would never have seen if I hadn’t climbed to the top. I could see mountains, cliffs, other hikers stretching around for miles and miles. It was one of the most emotional views I’d ever experienced.
On my way down, Rob and I got to say you’re almost there, promise – to the bedraggled hikers that we saw. Two hilarious best friends stopped and asked if I would take their pictures. They were hungover from doing too many shots the night before, but were persevering on and laughing along the way. We then got to experience the bliss of a hike that ended all the way downhill – followed by Canadian beer along a quiet river.
I think about that hike often when I’m struggling – how hard each step felt, how victorious I felt at the top, the emotions swirling in my chest. It was just a hike on a warm sunny day, but it’s really become a symbol to me of slowly moving forward, one step at a time. It taught me that I can do anything – that it might hurt, I might cry, and I might even have serious doubts. All those things are just as important and real as the triumph at the end.

____

Follow Kathryn Nolan on Social Media:
Official Website
Facebook

"What about this one?" Lars dangles the tiniest bikini he has found in the shop on his finger. It's more a fingernail than a piece of clothing.
"Perfect, let me try it on first and walk around the shop to be sure everyone appreciates it."
"No way, woman," he grunts, "I want you to wear it inside."
"Why would I wear this inside when I could be naked riding your cock?" I quirk an eyebrow.
"Because suggestive clothing is a veil to desire. I prefer to have a peek behind the curtain than being invited to a show with the curtain wide open," he shrugs.
"I know. And that's because you're a man of the shadows, babe. Buy it if it rocks your world. I'll wear it for you tonight. But for the beach, I need something covering a lot more." I continue my search through the rack until I find a cute black bikini. I turn around to show Lars and find him scrutinizing me.
"What?"
"I need to try on my bathing suit," he says, zooming in on my breasts.
"So stop looking at my tits and go." I point at the changing room. The shop is the typical surfer shop full of clothes and bracelets made from recycled plastic you find in the ocean. It's tiny and has a hippie beach vibe to it no one can resist. It even smells like monoi and coconut.
"I can't." He smiles. I can see the glimmer in his eyes that it's nothing serious. Probably, one of his stupid ideas like how he decided he always needs a couple of beers or he will get an earache. To this day, he still believes that if he has only one, his ear will not hurt.
"Why?" I roll my eyes not even waiting for his answer before knowing it's stupid.
"I don't think it's a good idea to try on a bathing suit with a hard-on," he whispers.
"Because you can catch HDD?" I smile.
"HDD?"
"I read it somewhere Lars. If you try on bathing suits with an erection, you might get Hard Dick Disease, and Mr. Selfish will stay in that state for your girlfriend to ride you whenever and wherever she wants. It's scientifically proven." I laugh at my own joke. Lars smirks.
"You're a dork."KayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-84823295748911508522020-04-30T09:00:00.000-07:002020-04-30T09:24:53.694-07:00Bookish Quarantine TagHey all! I'm fairly certain we're all a little stir crazy at this point so I thought it would be fun to do a Bookish Quarantine Tag with some of my favorite authors! Whaaaat? Yep, that's right. Lucy Score, Kathryn Nolan, Claire Kingsley, Jay Crownover, and Natasha Preston have all answered some questions for me and I hope you all enjoy their answers as much I do!

Major thank yous to Lucy, Claire, Kathryn, Jay and Natasha for taking the time to answer my questions. And to all of you I wish you the absolute best. I hope you're all staying safe and I want you to know I'm sending a ton of love to each and every one of you. We're all in this together.

Enjoy <3

Lucy:

What has been your favorite thing to eat while in isolation?
Tastycake Jelly Krimpets.

A lot of people have joined Tik Tok to give them something to do and make them laugh. What has made you laugh the most, and have you joined anything you thought you'd stay away from?
The only reason I know what Tik Tok is, is because of my super cool fake niece. The funniest Tik Tok I've seen is the wife working from home and her husband comes out in at T-Rex costume to dance up on her and then she hits him with a prosthetic leg. I haven't joined anything new during isolation. In fact, I've been moving toward simplifying, which is so overdue.

Claire:

If you could only keep 3 books with you during this time which ones would you choose?
I'd keep The Lord of the Rings (and cheat by counting them as one, since J.R.R. Tolkien considered them one story), Pride and Prejudice (because I could read that a million times), and probably something either motivational or maybe meditative, so I'd have something positive to lean on.

Many of us have been binge watching tv/movies. Which shows/movies have you been obsessed with?
I should probably be ashamed to admit how quickly we binge watched Tiger King, but I'm not. It was a train wreck, but a highly entertaining one. Lately, though, we've been MUCH classier, and watching the hell out of Poldark.

Kathryn:

What is your favorite "feel good" book?
My favorite "feel good" book is bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. It's an insightful book about writing, but it's also about life, dying, the power of books, the power of community, and all the ways writing can make you feel more alive and more attentive in a world just bursting to catch your attention! It's funny and deep and will make you cry but also clutch your chest at how perfect it is.

What have you been doing to keep your mind clear and your heart happy?
I'm keeping my mind clear and heart happy with music, video chats with friends and family, fresh flowers, gardening, yoga and exercise, bike rides, and sitting with Walter in the sun on the back patio. Good books and good movies help, as does cooking and wine. Right now I'm just incredibly grateful that the people I love are as safe and healthy as they can be. That's all that matters <3

Jay:

If you could isolate with any other author who would you pick?
The only person I could spend this much time stuck inside with is Cora Carmack. We traveled together through Europe for nearly a month and shared close quarters, so I think we could quarantine together no problem.

Which bands/singers are you currently blasting?
NCT 127 New Zone (a surprise to no one I'm sure)

Natasha:

What have you been doing to keep busy during this time?
I have an eight and a three year old so they keep me pretty busy. I’m also close to finishing another two books. When I have free time, I get in my hot tub (which is the only thing I panic bought a couple of weeks ago lol)

What's the best book you've read while in isolation?
I haven’t read anything new in isolation yet (deadline) but I have reread a favorite, The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.
_____

Which character from one of your books would you want to be quarantined with?

Lucy: I'm trying to figure out who's the best cook and who wouldn't hate doing all of the dishes and laundry. So Scarlett Bodine is definitely out. I'm going to say Marley Cicero from Rock Bottom Girl and Ally Morales from By a Thread. Between those two I'd be fed and endlessly entertained.

Claire: I'd have to go with Cooper Miles. His energy might be a lot to handle, but he'd make every day fun.

Kathryn: It's a toss up between Edward Cavendish III (obvi) and a giant slumber party with the Bluewater Babes (which I think would be epic.)

Jay: Do any of them cook? Lol...I can't remember if any of them are good cooks, but I'm so sick of my own food and cooking I could cry. Ohhh...AVETT from Charged is a good cook, she even gets a food truck at one point so I pick her.

Natasha: Oh good question. Clover from The Cellar. He might be my character but I still have a lot of questions.

Any positive words of wisdom?

Lucy: The world has never been more unified. Good people are doing truly selfless, beautiful things for strangers. And that's something worth focusing on.

Claire: Although this isn't an easy time, we're all in this together. Let's lean on each other in the ways we can, celebrating the things we still have. Love, friendship, connection, music, wine, good books, chocolate, cozy socks...

Kathryn: What the world is experiencing is unbearably hard and traumatizing and painful - the trauma and grief of this time is very real, as is the fear, the uncertainty, the longing for things to go back the way they were. When the world is burning, the smallest acts of kindness or generosity burn even brighter. And watching the strength of our communities coming together and lifting each other up is what gets me through every day.

Jay: If there was ever a time to get lost in a good book this is it. We might all be stuck at home, but there are a million words and wonderful words just waiting to be discovered right now when we need it most.

Natasha: This situation is tough on everyone and we all have a lot of emotions. But this temporary and we will get through it. We will hopefully come out stronger, kinder and more appreciative. Keep reading and visit dozens of worlds while ours is currently very small.

I hope you all had fun reading this tag! I also wanted to shout out that Claire, Lucy, Kathryn and Natasha all have new books out:
Claire: Love According to Science
Lucy: By a Thread
Kathryn: Under the Rose
If you have been following my blog for a while then you know the love I have for Jamie McGuire. Beautiful Disaster is one of my favorite books. It's incredible. I was hooked on her writing from the second I opened that first book.

For my birthday I went to a bookstore (yes, that's what I asked to do for my birthday) and I found From Here To You on sale for $4! I know! Crazy. So of course I bought it.

Then the stay home orders started happening.

Because of this I've really been reading a lot and this was one of the first books I picked up.

You. Guys.

This book follows Darby who on her wedding day finds out she's pregnant. Mhm. Preggers. And her nearly betrothed is an abusive a-hole. To give her baby and herself a good life she runs to the bus station and catches a ride to the farthest place she can afford: Colorado Springs. Upon arrival at the Colorado Springs Hotel, she not only gets a room but also manages to score a job as a front desk clerk.

Trex takes a new job with the Cheyenne Mountain Complex which is a top-secret military installation. Single and gorgeous, Trex has always felt that "the one" is out there, and when he finds her he'll instantly know. Staying at the Colorado Springs Hotel he has no idea the one might be so close.

The second Trex lays eyes on Darby he's hooked. Now, I did read some reviews on this and some people complained of "insta love." This is a topic I've touched on a few times, but in case you haven't read those posts I'll fill you in. I have a love hate relationship with "insta love." Sometimes I'm happy because I don't want to wait the whole freaking book for the couple to get together. But I can't stand it when 10 pages in they're desperately in love. That drives me mad. I didn't feel like From Here To You was rushed. Now, there were times I thought dang Trex you just met this girl, but I mean, who am I to judge?

The other best part of this book is we get to see characters from Jamie's previous novels....and by that I mean we get to see some of the Maddox brothers! Yay!!

I loved Trex and Darby's relationship and I also really enjoyed the suspenseful aspect that was woven in. All in all I had a great time reading this - I stayed up until 4 am to finish - and I would definitely recommend.

"But as wildfires rage on the mountain and Darby's ex-fiance shows he isn't so willing to let her go, both she and Trex are soon to find out that what you don't know absolutely can hurt you."

Buy From Here To You Here:

1. How long have you been a book blogger?
I started A Book Lovers Playlist in February of 2013.

2. At what point do you think you will stop?
Honestly, I don't see a time where I don't have this blog. I have had moments (uh hello we know) where I haven't written anything in a while, but I always find my way back to it. I really love my blog and I love everything that goes with it.

3. What is the best thing?
The best thing is probably interacting with other book lovers, as well as getting the opportunity to talk with my favorite authors.

4. What is the worst thing?
I feel really bad when I stop posting for a while. I feel like I'm letting my readers down and I hate that.

5. Who's your book crush?
Oh man, do you have all day? Right now I can't get Ashley Player - from the Dirty/Player series by Jaine Diamond - out of my head.

6. What do you wear when you write your blog?
Usually I'm in leggings and a hoodie. Sometimes I'm real classy and wear my finest pjs.

7. How long does it take you to prepare?
Oh man, sometimes it takes me a while. Well, that's not really accurate. It doesn't take me that long to prepare, but it takes me a while to write the post itself. Reviews usually just flow, I like to talk to you all as if we're best friends, so I don't want my writing to be boring. But, including links to everything is very time consuming.

8. How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?
I love it! Everyone I have met is so kind. It's a really laid back and fun community to be a part of, at least from my experiences.

9. What do you think one should have for a successful blog?
Excitement. You have to be excited to read and discuss the books you read, otherwise I think your readers will see right through you.

10. What do you eat when blogging?
Everything.KayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-6915889088001781902020-04-14T16:55:00.002-07:002020-04-14T16:55:44.276-07:00Wow, has it been a minute.Hey guys!

It's been a hot minute since I've posted on here. I told you before that I lost my grandma and it was leaving me uninspired. Well that's still true. I haven't had the desire to log on and gush about books with you but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.

At the end of last year I got to do some really exciting things on here and it was so much fun. I can't wait to get back to business and to fall in love with my blog again. You all mean so much to me and I enjoy talking to you, making you laugh through my reviews, and fangirling over all the book boyfriends.

In other news, I have been reading non stop lately. With everything going on in the world right now I've been staying home and occupying myself by reading as much as possible. Have you all been reading more? I hope you all are also staying home and staying safe!

I have a list of TBR that I can't wait to get in to. I also have been reading the Bootleg Springs series by Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley and guys, I'm in love. It's absolutely hysterical!

Thank you again for being patient with me, I hope you stick around for the upcoming content.

<3KayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-23951727753538679782019-11-30T21:00:00.000-08:002019-12-01T12:44:13.023-08:00Bluewater Billionaire's Bonus Questions

Four authors.
Four bad ass female characters.
Four sexy and lovable men.
Four love stories.
Four books.
And four weeks of reviewing and interviewing these incredible authors.

You guys, I have had so much fun this month. Lucy, Claire, Kathryn, and Pippa are some of the funniest, kindest, and just plain awesome ladies I've ever had the honor of interviewing. They have been so kind to me while I asked my MANY questions and fan-girled over not only their books but them as well. I hope you all have had as much fun reading these reviews/interviews as I did writing them.

This experience has been the highlight of my year and I just want to thank all of you for being so amazing. You have a fan in me for life. Thank you for everything <3

And as a bonus for all of you who follow my blog - and for me - I have asked these beautiful ladies 2 bonus questions!

(Instead of writing the book titles for each answer The Price of Scandal will be numbered 1, The Mogul and the Muscle will be 2, Wild Open Hearts will be 3, and Crazy for Loving You will be 4.)

1. If you had to use one word to describe each book in the Bluewater Billionaire's series, what would it be?
Lucy: 1. Mineyminemine. 2. Shoes. 3.Cookies. 4. Penises.
Claire: 1. Charming. 2. Badass. 3. Heartwarming. 4. Swoony.
Kathryn: 1. Smart. 2. Powerful. 3. Joyful. 4. Strong.
Pippa: 1. Sexy. 2. Swoony. 3. Sensual. 4. Heartfelt.

2. And last, if you were to recommend 1 book by each author, which one would it be?
Lucy: (For Claire) I'd have to go with Highball Rush in the Bootleg Springs series. Really any of the books she wrote in that series. They're AMAZEBALLS! (For Kathryn) Strictly Professional! Snarky tattoo artist and a prim and proper British guy in a suit? Yes, please! (For Pippa) Mister McHottie. It made me snort laugh out loud on a beach! (For herself) How about The Worst Best Man because Frankie makes an appearance in TPOS.

Claire: Rock Bottom Girl by Lucy Score, Bohemian by Kathryn Nolan, and Master Baker by Pippa Grant. (For herself) Faking Ms. Right :)

Kathryn: The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score. Sidecar Crush (Bootleg Springs 2) by Claire Kingsley. America's Geekheart by Pippa Grant. (For herself) I'd say Bohemian, because it has the most "feel" like Wild Open Hearts.

Pippa: For Lucy Score, Heart of Hope, because it's beautiful (and it's a holiday romance, so read it now!) For Claire Kingsley, go with Cocky Roommate, because WESTON! For Kathryn Nolan, definitely Bohemian - GORGEOUS!!! And for me, I suggest Flirting with the Frenemy.KayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-46877632245014938102019-11-28T09:00:00.000-08:002019-11-28T17:29:07.366-08:00Pippa Grant Interview

Have you ever started to talk to someone and can instantly tell that they're a good one? Like a genuinely good human? That's how I felt when I first started talking with Pippa.

I loved Crazy For Loving You so much, so when I emailed her the final questions I was smiling and giggly, and basically as silly as I was the first time I ever got kissed. Which btw happened while I was on the phone with my mother. Not exactly a romantic first kiss but that didn't stop the giddiness.

Thank you Pippa for answering all of my questions and for letting me be giddy.

Enjoy!!

1. How did West and Daisy's story come to you?
I knew I wanted Daisy paired with her polar opposite, but it took me four false starts before I found West. I wasn't sure if he was her ex-boyfriend, if he was famous too, if they grew up together, met later in life, or were total strangers, but once he finally begrudgingly told me he was a military man looking to settle down with a family, I understood why he was in Daisy's life.

It would've been nice if he'd been more forthcoming about 80,000 words earlier, but I'll forgive him. He had good reason to be nervous.

2. If you could be the CEO of a multi billion dollar company, what would the company be?
I'd be the CEO of a company that made happy, fun products for adults. ANYTHING that would make grown-ups, especially moms and businesswomen, smile, would be where I'd spend my days. (I'd also happily run a billion-dollar publishing empire specializing in romantic comedies...just putting that out there.)

3. There are 4 authors in the book that the girls love to listen to when they go to Drag Queen Brunch. If you could go to DQB with 4 of your favorite authors within ear shot, who would you pick?
Ahh! What a great question! And I know it's great because it's hard to answer, lol. For starters, Janet Evanovich - her humor is amazing, so I know I'd laugh listening to her. Then I'd toss in Jennifer Barnes - my son LOVES her books, and she's an amazing teacher for writers. Julia Kent would be a must too, because she's also very funny, and also so very nice. And then I'd round out the group with Alexander Dumas, whom we'd have to bring back from the dead, just because it would crack me up to have someone who wrote my favorite classic ever sitting there between some of the most brilliant and hilarious minds in the romance world today.

4. In each of the books the girls meet the author who wrote their story. If the 4 girls in the books, and the 4 of you who wrote them, could hang out for a whole week on vacation, where would you want to go?
We'd go to a private Caribbean island and soak up the sun and drink margaritas and Pina Coladas and watch Lucifer and plot books and world domination while someone else did all of our laundry and cooked us fresh seafood, and it would be amazing, and I'd never want to leave.

5. West is totally the guy you add to your book boyfriend list. He's already been added to mine. Who is your favorite guy out of the 4 books?
You know I'm totally biased here and have to pick West!! I'm a sucker for a military man who takes care of people. BUT, if you held my toes to the fire and told me I had to pick someone else, I'd pick the love child of Derek, Jude, and Beck, where said love child got Beck's heart, Jude's protectiveness, and Derek's pick-pocketing skills.

6. Out of the 4 girls, Emily, Cameron, Daisy, and Luna, who would you say you're the most like?
I'm a mix of Emily and Cameron, believe it or not! I went to college for an engineering degree, and I LOVE supporting women in STEM fields.

7. If you lived in Bluewater with Claire, Kathryn, and Lucy, and you were in charge of an activity for the community, what would you choose?
I'd make us all spend a night at the pottery wheel! It's an art form that's fascinated me since I was little, and I'm actually about to start taking some classes to learn how to actually do it without making bowls that look like artistic poop.

8. What is your favorite part of Bluewater?
Ah, another hard question!!! If I were to live in Bluewater, I'd spend every morning and evening on the beach (I love sunrise and sunset colors!!), and I'd probably spend my days in the little village writing at the coffee shop that I'm sure in in there somewhere, and talking to all the residents during my breaks.

9. What was your favorite part of your book?
It's a spoiler!! Can I say the black moment? That horrible all is lost, how will they ever survive this? moment? Because that was definitely a big moment...and hard to write, but one of my favorite black moments that I've ever written. I know I should say the cats on the trampoline, or one of the moments with Daisy and West in her bedroom, or the bromance scene between all the heroes (I gigged the whole time I was writing that!!), but...yeah. The black moment.

10. If Crazy for Loving You had a theme song, what would it be?
"I get knocked down," aka "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba.
You guys, the more I read of this series, the more I want to read. It's kind of like watching one episode of Friends, you just keep watching because it's so so good. When it was time to read Crazy For Loving You I had my metaphorical Thanksgiving pants on, ready to eat up as much of this as I could. Wait, that sounds really rather weird. Um, maybe disregard that.

Learning more about each of these women and watching their relationships grow as friends - as well as the relationships with their fellas - has been so much freaking fun.

I have to tell you guys, I did not think this book was going to go where it did!

I've gotten used to Daisy being the party girl of the group. She is loyal to her friends and a beautiful human, but she's definitely the wild child of the group.

So when Daisy finds herself inheriting a baby with an ex Marine -who probably never lets his gas tank get below half full (I'm an optimist) - my jaw was on the ground.

After Daisy's cousin and her husband pass away, she is left with their son Remy. However, as previously stated, she's not the only one who was named guardian of the child. Enter West.

My god, West.

I loved him so much that I have hearts in my eyes as I type this.

Because of Daisy's wild ways her grandmother insists that West stay with her to basically help her image. The courts will never let her keep the baby if she can't prove that she can be a fit mother for Remy - even though his own mother was not exactly Carol Brady if you know what I mean.

With West being strict and Daisy being...well...not...the two of them have to learn a way to work together. And oh boy do they. I LOVED watching their relationship, as well as watching them with Remy. It was also fun to see the rest of the characters we've grown to love throughout the series.

I won't give any spoilers but one of my favorite parts is when Derek, Jude, and Beck all meet West for the first time. I. LAUGHED. OUT. LOUD. And then I reread it because I loved it so much.

Every book in this series is phenomenal and so much fun. Obviously I recommend this installment, duh.
In the tune of Foreigner, "I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me."

Just kidding. I know what love is because that's what I feel for the Bluewater Billionaire series and the amazing authors who wrote it.

Thank you Kathryn for being so kind and letting me gush about my love of Luna to you, and also for answering my many questions.

And to everyone reading this, enjoy!

1. How did you come up with Luna and Beck's story?
Opposites attract is one of my favorite tropes. Luna came to me first - all four of us started with conceiving our lady billionaires first, so we could map out their lives, their friendship and what Bluewater would look like. I thought it would be really interesting to explore a billionaire whose "brand" is philanthropy and who is an earthy-free-spirited wild child -- but discovers that money has, in fact, changed her and the way she interacts with the world. Plus, Luna is a lot like me, and I love writing heroines who are happy, spirited and basically live the way their hearts direct them to. From there, I knew her hero had to be her total opposite: thus grumpy, surly, meat-eating, bearded Beck was born! I worked in the nonprofit sector for eight years, so I have a lot of background knowledge in that area, and I just loved the idea of the two of them working together on something that would put them in close proximity every day.

2. If you could be the CEO of a multi billion dollar company, what would the company be?
I would love to be the CEO of something outdoorsy, since that's what I love to do in my spare time. The closest comparison would be like REI. But I'd have a special section just for outdoor gear for your dogs, of course.

3. There are 4 authors in the book that the girls love listen to when they attend Drag Queen Brunch. If you could go to a DQB with 4 of your favorite authors within ear shot of you, who would you pick?
Besides Lucy, Claire and Pippa...let's see, right now I'm loving Sierra Simone, Maria Luis, Kerrigan Byrne and Tessa Bailey (this is not a complete list, but I do think all four of them would be a hoot together!)

4. What was it like writing this series with your friends?
AMAZING! The four of us have similar likes and dislikes, similar writing styles and all enjoy world-building. It made it very easy to work together -- and as we wrote the books, it was so fun to send each other scenes and be like "Oh look! Emily helped Luna at her house tonight!" Our enjoyment was in real-time and that made writing these books incredibly fun.

5. Beck is clearly book boyfriend material. Who is your favorite guy out of the 4 books?
It's no secret I'm obsessed with Beck - he's like my dream man. Derek is too swoony and charming for words. I would die for him probably. Jude is the big bodyguard of my dreams and his special set of skills makes me weak in the knees. West is a big ball of honorable sexiness and I adored him. So I guess all four? :)

6. Out of the 4 girls, Emily, Cameron, Daisy and Luna, who would you say you're the most like?
Luna! I worked in fundraising/philanthropy for a long time, am a nature nerd, I love dogs, and very cheerful and free-spirited. I also cry constantly just like Luna -- happy tears mostly!

7. If you lived in Bluewater with Claire, Pippa, and Lucy and you were in charge of an activity for the community, what would you choose?

I love dancing, so probably a monthly dance party.

8. What is your favorite part of Bluewater?
I love Steve the alligator and the Wealthy Widows. I love that all four of the heroines are neighbors and best friends. And I love that it's filled with kooky billionaires who love pranks and care about each other and adopt rescue dogs. It's such a special and fun place!

9. What was your favorite part of your book?
Luna and Beck had to really earn each other's trust - and along the way, both helped the other see their inner value. It's a slow burn for sure but I think their love story is really satisfying because they worked hard to get there. There are lots and lots of emotional scenes for me, but the ending scene when they get back together (no spoilers, promise) brings me to happy tears every time.

10. If Wild Open Hearts had a theme song, what would it be?
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Satisfy My Soul. I can see Luna playing this around her pool, dancing barefoot and singing it to Beck as he sits with the dogs in the morning. ;)

Follow Kathryn on Social Media:
Website
Facebook
Instagram

Buy The Bluewater Billionaire Books:
The Price of Scandal
The Mogul and The Muscle
Wild Open Hearts
Crazy For Loving YouKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-87847382629335443002019-11-19T09:00:00.000-08:002019-11-19T09:00:03.999-08:00Wild Open Hearts: Bluewater Billionaires Book 3 by Kathryn Nolan

Have you ever cried because you're so happy?

Like when Shadow comes up that hill at the end of Homeward Bound? Yeah, I know, I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

Or when Cher announced that her final final final farewell tour wasn't actually her final tour? I know! I ugly cried too.

That's how I felt when I read Wild Open Hearts. My heart was so full of love that I was skipping around my house and smiling as big as I would if I just entered a donut shop.

I knew going into this that I would love it. No, that's not just being an optimist, it's because I loved Luna the second she was introduced in The Price of Scandal. I fell more in love with her in The Mogul and the Muscle and I knew with absolute certainty that I would be silly happy when I read this book.

Luna is a total free spirit. She's a vegan who loves animals more than most things, she's an eternal optimist, beautiful and incredibly caring. Unfortunately a scandal threatens her company and everything she's ever worked for. To help the public see her for her true self she volunteers her time at a local non profit called The Lucky Dog. There she hopes to not only fix her current image but to mostly help the dogs as well as the workers who give everything to the dogs.

The owner of Lucky Dog is not as sun shiny as Luna though. He's moody and grumpy and comes from a family that is involved with Miami's most notorious biker gang. Even though Beck knows that Luna's presence and connections could help The Lucky Dog tremendously, he's hesitant to work with her. Not trusting her is at the top of his concerns, followed closely by a fear that she will make them look like a pathetic charity case. He doesn't want her pity and boy oh boy does he give her a run for her money. And she has like a lot of money.

As their partnership continues you get to watch the two of them grow into something amazing. Beck begins to let Luna in and the love begins to grow. Fireworks. ;)

It was so fun to see Cameron, Daisy and Emily again and watch them interact with Luna and Beck. Bluewater itself is so fun and the way these books are written you really feel like you're there.

I absolutely adored this book. I smiled so much when I read it that my cheeks hurt. I teared up in parts and I laughed out loud in others. It is everything that I hoped it would be and more. So much more. I 100% recommend this book to you, as well as the others in the Bluewater Billionaire's series.

P.S. Anyone know where I can buy a flower crown?

Buy Wild Open Hearts HERE

Listen to my playlist for Wild Open Hearts on Spotify by clicking HEREKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-42147838799487842972019-11-14T09:00:00.000-08:002019-11-14T09:00:09.672-08:00Claire Kingsley Interview

I've gotten to do some pretty cool things in my life so far. I've given birth to a really cool little man. The giving birth part wasn't that cool but, you know, the after part was. I acted in a Shakespeare play in middle school, I thought I was the next Meryl Streep. And this year for my birthday I went to see Air Supply with my mom and best friend and got to rest my arms on the stage while they sang Making Love Out of Nothing At All...to me. However, I must tell you that getting the chance to interview Lucy, Claire, Kathryn and Pippa is by far the coolest thing to happen to me not only this year, but possibly ever.

Thank you so so much Claire for taking the time to answer all of my questions!!

1. How did you create Cameron and Jude?

When the four of us authors decided to write this series, I started thinking about concepts, tropes, and themes I might want to incorporate. I went through a few ideas before I landed on one that really spoke to me - a bodyguard story. I've never written a story about a heroine and her bodyguard, and it sounded like it would be a ton of fun. I love a protective hero and the push and pull of a relationship that's supposed to remain professional.

Cameron took shape as I chatted with the other Bluewater authors (sadly not at DQB) and learned more about their characters. I knew I wanted Cameron to be a CEO and to have earned her fortune. And putting her in charge of an aerospace empire seemed unexpected in a way that really spoke to me. Jude has a lot of my writer catnip traits. He's big, powerful, extremely skilled and competent, and also has some very poignant vulnerabilities.

2. If you could be the CEO of a multi billion dollar company, what would the company be?

That's tough because honestly, I wouldn't want to do anything other than what I already am doing. And if I was a CEO of anything, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have time to write books.

3. There are 4 authors in the book that the girls love to listen to when they go to Drag Queen Brunch. If you could go to a DQB with 4 of your favorite authors within ear shot, who would you pick?

Do I have to stick with four? My fellow Bluewater authors are honestly some of my favorite authors as a reader, but maybe it's cheating to pick them. I'd love to eavesdrop on Mariana Zapata, Melanie Harlow, T.S. Joyce, and Tessa Dare.

4. Speaking of DQB, do the 4 of you write together like the authors in the series?

I wish! Sadly, we don't live close enough for that. I live on the west coast, so I'm the farthest from the rest. Lucy Score and I have been able to get together in person a few times, both at writers conferences and just for fun. And me, Lucy, and Pippa Grant were just at a conference together in September. I get to meet Kathryn in person for the first time at Indies Invade Philly and I'm SO freaking excited. The four of us will all be together and it's going to be amazing.

5. Jude is total book boyfriend material. Who is your favorite guy out of the 4 books?

Gah! I couldn't possibly decide. Derek is so swoony and charming, Jude obviously has a special place in my heart. Beck is delightfully grumpy and deep and wonderful. And West is so hot and protective and growly. I love them all!

6. Out of the 4 girls, Emily, Cameron, Daisy, and Luna, who would you say you're the most like?

I'm probably a bit of Cameron and Emily. Cam's sarcasm comes easily to me and although I don't work myself into the ground like Emily does, I have my moments.

7. If you lived in Bluewater with Pippa, Lucy, and Kathryn, and you were in charge of an activity for the community, what would you choose?

I'd be all over throwing 80s night (and heck, how about 90s night!) at the Bluewater Disco!

8. What is your favorite part of Bluewater?

I absolutely love the idea of creating a little micro community and being neighbors with my best friends. My husband and I did live next door to our long-time best friends for about nine years. We didn't build an entire community, just neighboring houses, but that in and of itself was amazing. Job changes meant we're no longer neighbors (but still close friends) and the four of us keep trying to figure out how we can make it happen again.

9. What was your favorite part of your book?

My favorite scene to write was the rescue scene at the end, particularly the juxtaposition of what they're doing (escaping bad guys), and their conversation. It was a keystone scene for me- something that was in my head in quite a bit of detail from the beginning. I could envision the whole thing and when I got to that part, it turned out exactly like I hoped it would.

10. If the Mogul and the Muscle had a theme song, what would it be?

Are you ready for the glorious cheesiness? Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. Largely because of Cam's love of 80s music and it plays when she honks the horn on her tricked-out golf cart.

I also have a playlist for The Mogul and the Muscle, including the songs that appear in the book and some that were on my playlist while I was writing.

Follow Claire Kingsley on Social Media:
Website
Facebook
Instagram
Twitter
Bookbub
Goodreads

Buy The Bluewater Billionaire Books:
The Price of Scandal
The Mogul and The Muscle
Wild Open Hearts
Crazy For Loving YouKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-56710156621814051642019-11-12T09:00:00.000-08:002019-11-12T09:00:10.010-08:00The Mogul and The Muscle: Bluewater Billionaires Book 2 by Claire Kingsley

After finishing The Price of Scandal, I couldn't wait to pick up The Mogul and The Muscle because I couldn't wait to see more of Cameron Whitbury. This girl makes my 80s music loving heart happy.

As someone who has seen Rick Springfield - and cried - I'm here to tell you that anytime a character in a movie or a book loves 80s music or movies I'm instantly on board with them.

Aside from her great taste in music, Cameron is crazy smart, gorgeous, and an aerospace mogul. However, after a sex tape that could be released and an attempted mugging, Cam's friends - specifically Emily - decide that her safety is too important for her to brush off. Derek - who we met in the first book - is friends with Jude who is basically a walking security system and he's now Cameron's bodyguard.

You getting Kevin Costner vibes? Oh guys trust me, it's even better.

Jude is instantly taken by Cam - whether he wants to admit it or not. He is without a doubt one of the sexiest characters I've ever read about. His protectiveness and the way his gut reacts to situations is intriguing. The way he touches Cameron and the things he does to her, my God. I'm blushing. Watching the two of them banter is actually pretty hilarious and the thoughts the two of them have about each other...not so hilarious but oh so hot.

I really loved how in this book it wasn't just the love story between Jude and Cameron. It was also the love of her friends - that is always present - that I think is so wonderful to see. There are a lot of books out there where our main character has a best friend but I'm not sure I've ever read anything quite like this series. The way these girls have each others back is really amazing. No matter what, the four of them can conquer anything together and they are always always there for each other. I love that.

I also loved that there was actually quite a bit of action. It wasn't like watching Die Hard or anything but it did get your heart racing. For many reasons. The question throughout is who is trying to harm Cam? Why are they trying to hurt her? It brings another level to the story and I really enjoyed it.

Jude and Cameron are fo sho added to the top of my favorite couples ever in the history of books now. I without a doubt recommend you all pick this one up.
This is the second time I've had the opportunity to interview the very fabulous, Lucy Score. How lucky am I??

Thank you again to Lucy for taking the time to answer my questions and dealing with my fan girling. You the real MVP. Are the kids saying that anymore? Am I old? Hmm....anyway, I hope you all enjoy the interview!!

1. How did Bluewater Billionaires come to exist?

My author friend Pippa Grant went on a hilarious rant saying she was tired of men getting to have all the zeroes in the bank account. She then hypothesized about what kind of a man would be secure enough and awesome enough to fall in love with a lady billionaire!

2. If you could be the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, what would the company be?

Something that involves martini tastings, mattress testing, or reading books for a living. Preferably all three.

3. There are 4 authors in the book that the girls love to listen to when they go to Drag Queen Brunch. If you could go to a DQB with 4 of your favorite authors within ear shot, who would you pick?

I'd love to be at Drag Queen Brunch eavesdropping on Claire Kingsley, Kathryn Nolan, Pippa Grant and whoever they tried to replace me with. Then I'd pop up over the back of the booth and yell, "Does she even like tacos?" before hurling a Bloody Mary at Replacement Lucy and storming out. Hypothetical Lucy is very dramatic.

4. Speaking of Drag Queen Brunch, which Drag Queen would be your favorite?

My favorite drag queen would be one who could help me master contouring and highlighting, I keep failing the YouTube tutorials. Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the movie The Birdcage. So if a Nathan Lane's Starina is an option, I choose her!

5. Derek is total book boyfriend material. Who is your favorite guy out of all 4 books?

I'm un-apologetically biased. Derek Price is my swoony, pocket-picking, dirty-talking, hair-cutting favorite man in Bluewater!

6. Out of the 4 girls, Emily, Cameron, Daisy and Luna, who would you say you're the most like?

I think I'm a really messy combination of Emily and Daisy. I love being completely absorbed in work, but in the rest of my life I'm the inappropriate, unapologetic, fun-seeker with a Bloody Mary in the cupholder of the stair climber.

7. If you lived in Bluewater with Claire, Pippa, and Kathryn and you were in charge of an activity for the community, what would you choose?

All you can eat tacos and margaritas block party. Last one standing wins.

8. What is your favorite part of Bluewater?

I love the idea behind these women deciding they wanted to create their own home. Not just the houses they live in, but an entire community where they can be themselves safely and without judgement. Also, I love Frank the a$$hole parrot and Steve the three-legged alligator. Steve was named by Claire Kingsley's daughter during the brainstorming process.

9. What was your favorite part of your book?

I have a LOT of favorites. The meet-nude. Emily trusting Derek to cut her hair and the change in her character that signaled. The first kiss in the "science closet". And that *ahem* up-against-the-door scene. Also, Jane finally getting to use her stun gun!

10. If The Price Of Scandal had a theme song, what would it be?

Ooooh. This was a thinker! I'm going to go with "Sucker" by the Jonas Brothers. I think it embodies how Derek falls for Emily.

Follow Lucy on Social Media:
Website
Facebook
Twitter
Instagram
Goodreads

Buy The Bluewater Billionaire Books:
The Price of Scandal
The Mogul and The Muscle
Wild Open Hearts
Crazy for Loving YouKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-45267541850042657502019-11-05T09:00:00.000-08:002019-11-05T09:00:04.507-08:00The Price of Scandal: Bluewater Billionaires Book 1 by Lucy Score

I've read 9 of Lucy's books now and I have to tell you guys a secret.

Have you seen Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt? You know how they go on that ship and get sent away to another planet? I think Lucy came here on that ship from a planet far far away. A planet known for their comedy, ability to write (like really freaking well), and for their extreme love of tacos; not just on Tuesday but literally every second of every day.

The Price of Scandal had me laughing out loud.

Emily is a gorgeous and intelligent CEO who is also a billionaire. While she prefers to spend her waking moments focused on work she agrees to go out on a blind date with a man her coworker sets her up with. Oh boy. Big mistake. After a tad misunderstanding with law enforcement that paparazzi captures on film, Emily finds herself messed up in quite the scandal. Enter Derek Price who makes a living helping the rich and famous clear their image and generally make people like them again. Oh and did I mention he's naked in a tub when the two meet?

Ha, gotcha now, don't I?

Watching the two of them bicker and then begin to care for one another made my life happy. I mean it, my whole entire life was made happier because of them. Not only did I love Derek and Emily but meeting Emily's BFFs and watching their friendship got me so excited to continue on with the series.

Basically I'm telling you guys that you have to read this. It's that simple.

Buy The Price of Scandal HERE

Listen to my playlist for The Price of Scandal on Spotify by clicking HEREKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-38881593645045970082019-11-04T09:33:00.001-08:002019-11-04T09:33:51.134-08:00Bluewater Billionaire's Month on A Book Lovers Playlist

Since October began I've been giving you all my thoughts on Lucy Score and her almost absurdly good books. Well, today is no different.

You see today we have our 5th installment in the "Kayleigh review's Lucy" series and it's on her book Crossing The Line.

Are you as excited as I am?

Waverly Sinner is pretty much America's darling. She's the actress to watch. The actress who was born into Hollywood Royalty.

Xavier Saint is the man hired to protect her. He's a serious professional who refuses to be thwarted by a pretty face.

However when the two are together it's like the freaking grand finale of a fireworks show.

May I start by saying that I really loved Waverly. She is not what I expected when I went into this book. Knowing that she was famous and needing a bodyguard my assumption was that she was pulling a Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan early 2000's and partying too much and showing her lady business to every tabloid there to exploit her. Man was I toooootally wrong. She is humble and kind and so far from the party girl I had already assumed her to be. You know what they say when you assume though right? Yep, I made an ass out of u and me.

Xavier, like every other man Lucy Score writes about, is perfection. He's handsome but lethal. He's serious but always finds himself happier with Waverly. The two of them begin as enemies. He wants to do his job but she believes he is just another person who is there to control her. The two of them grow so much in the first installment of this duology and I absolutely loved it.

Most of Lucy's books have centered more on the love story, not even just with the two falling in love but also the love story including friends and family. While Crossing The Line had that it also had action and suspense. There is a man who is stalking Waverly and throughout the book you find yourself holding your breath in certain scenes because you don't know what's going to happen.

I read the second book in this set the moment I finished this one and I'm happy to tell you that both of them are wonderful and definitely must reads!!

Buy Crossing The Line on Amazon by clicking HERE

Check out my other reviews of Lucy's books below:

Pretend You're Mine
Mr. Fixer Upper
The Worst Best Man
Rock Bottom GirlKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-73290620694136684642019-10-16T09:00:00.000-07:002019-10-16T09:00:00.366-07:00Pretend You're Mine by Lucy Score

Have you watched The Notebook? What about Titanic? An Affair to Remember? Or wait, what about Funny Girl? Well oh my man I love him so and oh man did I love Pretend You're Mine.

What do all of the previously stated movies have in common? Okay yes, attractive leading men. Yes I have seen Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love and yes his body was practically photoshopped. I digress. What's the one thing they have in common? They make you feel everything.

And this book?

It. Made. Me. Feel. Ev-er-y-thing.

I knew that I would enjoy this read because I love everything Lucy Score writes. She could literally give me her grocery list full of taco supplies and I'd probably be hit with a wave of emotions for my love of cheese.

However, I was not prepared to have this book completely wreck me. I'm a book blogger and I've been reading for as long as I can remember. I've read so many books that I've lost count. I've laughed, cried, gotten angry, felt like a warrior and wanted to kick some ass because of it. I've read books that put me right into the story and I have felt deeply connected to characters. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. And Pretend You're Mine put me right there. I felt my heart breaking in certain parts and I felt my heart healing in others. I don't want to give anything away but there is one specific part where a character sends a text with one word.

That's it.

One word.

That one word had me sobbing. I felt like I was the one receiving that text message and my heart soared.

If you go to Goodreads you'll see this,

"<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">Luke Garrison is a hometown hero, a member of the National Guard ready to deploy again. Strong, sexy, broody, the last thing he’s looking for is a woman to ruin his solitude. When the wildly beautiful Harper stumbles into his life, though, he realizes that she's the perfect decoy. A fake girlfriend to keep his family off his back until he's deployed."

I too read that before I started reading Pretend You're Mine and I thought oh okay it's going to be like a fake relationship turned real and it'll be full of sexy scenes and knowing Lucy, probably some laughs. Well I did laugh, and holy crap were there some sexy scenes. The secondary characters were so wonderful that I wish they were real so I could be friends with them. I laughed and swooned so much that I reread certain parts.

But this book was everything and more.

Everything that I've been missing in books.
More than I ever could've asked for.

Luke is so complex and damaged but really so is Harper. Even with that they don't behave like it. Luke shuts off his emotions while Harper is so glass half full you can't help but become more positive while reading. Their love story in my opinion is one of the greats. Their love story should be put onto film not just so we can all fangirl because they're on the big screen, but because their story makes you believe. It makes you believe in love, and it makes you believe in yourself. Not often can a book deeply impact your life and to say that Pretend You're Mine just deeply impacted mine; well, that would be a massive understatement. This book consumed me and I'm not sure I have ever felt the way I did while reading this.

I said earlier that I love everything Lucy Score writes and I knew I would the second I fell in love with Rock Bottom Girl. But now? I am hopelessly in love with the stories that she has created for us. I am desperately in love with the characters that she has given us. And I am irrevocably in love with Pretend You're Mine.
As someone who has been watching Property Brothers since her early 20's - and has had a crush on Jonathan Scott for the same length of time - this book was like my every dream come true.

To quote the incredibly timeless Lizzie McGuire, "Hey now, hey now, this is what dreams are made of."

After reading two of Lucy's books I couldn't stop. I had to keep reading and Mr. Fixer Upper sounded like the perfect choice to continue on with my binge.

I've had this blog since 2013. That's 6 years that we've been able to get to know each other, so I think it's safe to say that you guys can trust what I tell you. When I say my son is the most important part of my life? Truth. When I tell you that I have a tattoo of peanut butter and jelly holding hands with the words "my person" underneath? Factual statement. When I say that they in fact were on a break? Again, truth bomb. So when I tell you that when I read Mr. Fixer Upper and my head went into a Wizard of Oz-esque tornado of thoughts, I'm not lying. I loved this book so much I couldn't even process all of my feelings. I tried to talk to my mom about this book and it went something like this:

Me: "Mom, I read this book."
Mom: "Okay. Was it good?"
Me: "I. I. It. I."
Mom: "You haven't been this speechless since the season 3 finale of The OC."

Gannon King is a reality television star. Alongside his sister, he goes across America fixing up homes of those who deserve a fresh start. It's kind of like Extreme Home Makover without the crazy hair.

Paige St. James is a field producer for the show and is not attracted to Gannon. Or at least she tells herself she's not.

The two are constantly arguing and getting frustrated with the other. But underneath the yelling and the tantrums there is a tension like no other.

When the cameras capture the sparks that basically shoot out of them, they find rating gold and create a love story centered around the two. However, in typical reality show "realness" the network creates trouble that makes Paige question everything.

Gannon and Paige are hands down one of my favorite book couples of all time. I am Kanye taking away Tay Tay's mic when I say, "ALL TIME!"

You all have to read this book and then come on here and leave me comments so we can fan girl together. And when you reach a certain shower scene...dear God...please please let me know that I'm not alone in the swooning.

Buy Mr. Fixer Upper on Amazon: HERE
Check out my interview with Lucy Score: HERE

You can also check out my reviews of Lucy's other books below!
*Rock Bottom Girl Review
*The Worst Best Man ReviewKayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613734878791021616.post-46393905542125308342019-10-02T06:43:00.000-07:002019-10-12T10:13:47.730-07:00The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score

After reading and loving Rock Bottom Girl by Lucy Score (check out my review here) I decided I needed to read more from her....

...then I checked out for 2 months.

Yep, the book slump hit me. I just didn't want to read. Every now and then I'd pick up something to get me by but I wasn't committed.

Then I went on vacation and downloaded The Worst Best Man. I then proceeded to not "vacation" with my family. I read at night, thought about reading during the day while doing "family activities". (I'm air quoting these in my head to really push the sarcasm.)

I stared off into space daydreaming about the story.

I smiled when thinking about the events happening in the book.

I sighed over my breakfast in fondness.

I called people Frankie and Aiden.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. I may have taken that too far.

As the wise Lizzo once said, I'm 100% that bitch.

The Worst Best Man follows Frankie and Aiden who could not be more different in many aspects. Frankie is independent, self sufficient, gorgeous, a complete bad ass basically. Aiden is hot af, a business genius, and a total boss. Frankie's bff is marrying Aiden's bro - is that how dude's call each other bffs? - and the two meet during pre wedding activities and instantly DON'T hit it off. After dealing with bridesmaids from hell, serious sexual tension and a kidnapping that turns Frankie and Aiden into a metaphorical Batman and Robin, the two decide that maybe they have a little something. Basically in bed. And it's not so little. ;) ;)

When they go back home Frankie and Aiden decide to start hanging out but neither are prepared for their feelings to grow.

I read this book so fast I've decided to rename my blog The Flash reads Lucy Score.

If you've read her before, or if you haven't, you HAVE to check out The Worst Best Man. The characters, whether main or secondary, are fabulous. It's funny, sexy, adorable, and has action....of every kind. See what I did there?

I haven't done a Top Ten Tuesday in a hot freaking minute. I have no excuses as to why not, I just haven't. And for that I am deeply apologetic. So to make up for lost time I'm going to do one today. This Tuesdays topic is Books on my Summer 2019 TBR.

10. Once and For All by Sarah Dessen
Is it really summer if you don't read a Sarah Dessen book? Me thinks not.

9. Choice by Laikyn Meng
I just got this book in the mail and I'm not so patiently waiting to get into it!

8. Dirty Like Dylan by Jaine Diamond
I HAVE to continue on with this series. It's. So. Good.

7. Mother Shucker (Sibby Book 3) by Samantha Garman
I'm not going to lie to you guys, I've already started this. But it was on my list before I knew I'd be actually typing out a list. So that counts, right?

6. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
I recently began binging this show and I'm obsessed. Like almost shamefully obsessed. Like Perry with Celeste obsessed.

5. Downfall by Jay Crownover
It's been a minute since I've read my beloved Jay Crownover and I'm so ready to get back into her stories.

4. Alright guys, I saw this tag online and thought it sounded fun. I'm trying to only pick from books I've read this year. Lets go.

1. One character who can cook/likes to cook

Indie from the book Rhett. She has her own bakery, wait, does that count?

2. One character who has money to fund the party

Brandon Sterling from Legally Yours. That dude's loaded.

3. One character who might cause a scene

Skylar from Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist. I don't think she'd cause one to be rude, she just tends to have a lot of things happen around her lol.

4. One character who is funny/amusing

Sibby from Queen of Klutz. She is hilarious!!

5. One character who is super social/popular

Hmm, I'm going to invite Aiden - Sibby's fella because he's super social and I can't invite one without the other. That would just be rude.

6. One villain

Okay so I'm going to choose Seth from Dirty Like Seth. He is no villain but he is to the band at a certain point in time.

7. One couple - doesn't have to be romantic

Marley and Jake <3

8. One hero/heroine

Will from Waking Olivia. He certainly was a hero to Olivia!!

9. One underappreciated character

This one has stumped me. I seriously cannot think of one damn person.

10. One character of your own choosing

Olivia from Waking Olivia lol. I have to invite her for Will people, come on.KayleighCallinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01454125908860989242noreply@blogger.com0
